Morning
It is a cliché to say that no day is the same when you are a Trainee Solicitor, but what is for certain is that my morning will entail coffee and a workout at the gym before work. The following blog will demonstrate what a day in the life of a new Trainee Solicitor working in Residential Conveyancing might entail.
08:30
I arrive at the office and fire up the computer whilst I check my emails and catch up with the team.
08:45
I organise my priorities for the day by checking my emails that have come in overnight and reviewing my to-do-list from the previous day.
09:00
A typical task I may start with is opening a new file for a new client. This will entail drafting the initial paperwork (such as the Client Care Letter) to suit the client’s needs. Once the file is up and running the initial paperwork will be sent to the client to be signed and completed.
10:00
I am currently working on the sale side of conveyancing, so a lot of my time is spent drafting the contract pack. This entails drafting the contract itself as well as the letter to the other side solicitor, letter to estate agent and letter to client. The contract, once proof-read, will be sent to the other side solicitor for them to agree and revert to us on any amendments they wish to implement.
11:30
Once the contract pack is drafted for one file, I will then concentrate on another file and move onto replying to enquiries from the other side solicitor. This task can vary in length of time and vary in complexity depending on the circumstances of the client’s case. When I receive the enquiries from the other side solicitor, I identify which enquiries my client can answer and which enquiries need to be sent to, for example, a management company. Also, I will be able to answer some enquiries myself; I will read through any relevant documents to assist me with my replies. Once I receive the answers from the relevant parties, I then draft the replies to the other side solicitor
13:00
Lunch time! I am currently studying to further my knowledge in law, so I tend to spend my lunch preparing for my university workshops and getting ahead of any tasks that have been set.
14:00
Alongside working on the sale side of conveyancing, I also write blogs for Pardoes’ social media. I am in the process of researching planning permission and Building Regulation considerations that homeowners need to consider when installing, for example, solar panels on their property.
15:00
At this point in my career I am solidifying my knowledge of the sale side of conveyancing, so I continue to reply to the solicitor enquiries and draft contract packs. Alongside this, I reply to emails that have come in.
17:15
It is almost the end of the day. My last task of the day will be preparing my to-do-list for the next day.
17:30
Home time.
Evening
I will continue my studies by completing reading and tasks.
